A BLEAK SCENARIO

Around the world, things and events are taking a turn for the worse, economically and financially. People are losing their jobs. It is a very bleak scenario. On 31 January 2020, the FBM KLCI closed at 1,531 points.

Newly-minted graduates will not have many options in the future. In fact, they will be struggling to even get a decent job as the employment scenario will get even more difficult. Another issue is their real capabilities.

Many lack good communication skills, soft skills, critical thinking skills and presentation skills. Naturally, employers will be forced to hire ONLY people who possess such skills at the outset. Which employer is going to waste time, effort and money training these graduates in the aforementioned skills? Isn’t that an extra HIDDEN COST on the part of the employer?

As a trainer, I see things and events differently.

In the coming future, graduates who are not competent in the hard and soft skills in any vocation will face tremendous pressure in just getting a decent job. But don’t blame our graduates ENTIRELY. Blame it on Malaysia’s educational system which has not empowered our young to face the world boldly.
